CARA MUHLHAHN, CNM

MIDWIFE/FOUNDER

Cara Muhlhahn, CNM is a graduate of Columbia University School of Nursing, and SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn's Midwifery Education Program. She has practiced as a midwife since obtaining her Certificate of Nurse-Midwifery in 1991. Prior to starting her private practice in 1996, Cara practiced midwifery at Beth Israel Medical Center, and at Maternity Center, Inc., Manhattan's Birthing Center, both in New York, New York. Cara lives in Manhattan with her son Liam, who was born at home.

EMORY SHIP, CNM

ASSOCIATE MIDWIFE/DOULA

Emory Ship, CNM is a graduate of New York University's College of Nursing, and received her Master's in Midwifery at SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn in 2006. Emory has worked as a registered nurse in obstetrics at NYU Medical Center since 2002, and as a birthing assistant at the former Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center in addition to working as a private doula. Emory is the proud mother of Teio and Skye, who were both born at home with Cara.

TANIA ZIRULNIK, CD (DONA), LCCE

ASSISTANT MIDWIFE/DOULA

Tania is a graduate of the Midwifery Education Program of Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru. She has practiced as a midwife in Peru since she graduated in 2002. Prior to coming to the United States, Tania worked as a midwife at the Pakarii birthing center in Lima. In the U.S., She became certified as a Birth Doula through DONA International in 2006 and became a certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator in the same year. She has also volunteered at the Doula Program at Bellevue Hospital Birth Center. Tania has been part of Cara Muhlhahn Midwifery since 2007.

KATIE BAKER

OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

Katie Baker is a graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory of Music with a focus in classical violin performance. She has been in charge of office management and billing administration for Cara Muhlhahn Midwifery since February of 2007. In addition to her work with Cara, Katie also writes her own music which she performs solo and with other talented musicians throughout New York City.

CORRINA LAUGHLIN

OFFICE MANAGER

Corrina Laughlin is a California native with an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Religious Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She is currently in graduate school at New York University studying literature. She has been working with Cara since August 2009 as a general office manager.

SAMANTHA SIFANTUS

WEBSITE DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT

Samantha Sifantus is a graduate of New School for Social Research in New York City. She is a full-time graphic artist and web developer at Diasa Design. Samantha was born at home in New York and has two children, Pascale and Sebastien, both of whom were also born at home with Cara in attendance.
